Learn "why" you should belong to the Y. YMCA Partners with Annual Rotary Duck Race In an effort to increase awareness surrounding the child abuse in Douglas County, the Central Douglas County Family YMCA (“the Y”) and the Roseburg Rotary Duck Race have teamed together to bring the Douglas County community one fabulous, fun-filled day at River Fork’s Park. All events are free to families and children of Douglas County. Participants need not be members in either of the organizations in order to take part in the festivities. Scheduled for Saturday, August 28, from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM at River Forks Park, the event is free to all community members. Executive Director, Marisa Fink earlier stated, “The YMCA is excited about bringing the two efforts together. Building strong kids, strong families and strong communities is the mission of the Y. Being a part of raising awareness of child abuse fits right in with our mission.” The Rotary Duck Race has operated since 1998 as a means to raise funds and community awareness surrounding child abuse. Several agencies that serve children younger than 5.are supported every year with the funds, and this year include Court Appointed Special Advocates, Battered Persons Advocacy, Douglas C.A.R.E.S., Family Development Center, Healthy Start, Safe Haven Maternity Home and The First Step. This year the goal is to raise $100,000. Duck race tickets are available for purchase at the Y. Free to the entire community, attendees can expect great food, face painting, snow cones, cotton candy, child I.D. kits, raffles, and give away prizes. Local providers of family services will staff booths with information and family activities.
